What is Veredicto?

Veredicto is a fact-checking agency. We verify claims that circulate online, assess them against available evidence, and publish our findings. Our goal is direct: reduce the reach and impact of disinformation by providing clear, well-sourced verdicts that anyone can understand and share.

Aggregation and Attribution

Many of the claims we investigate have already been examined by other organizations. When that is the case, we cite their work directly and link to their original reporting. We believe proper attribution strengthens the entire fact-checking ecosystem.

Veredicto only references work from certified, reputable, and legitimate verification organizations like AFP Fact Check, The Evidence Dispatch, Full Fact, PublicProof, Newtral, and FactCheck.org.

Original Reporting

Not every false claim gets the scrutiny it deserves. Veredicto produces original fact-checks on stories that mainstream outlets and larger organizations often overlook: misinformation affecting local communities, narratives spreading in niche interest groups, and emerging patterns that gain traction online before traditional newsrooms take notice. We see this as essential work—disinformation does not only travel through high-profile channels, and the communities most affected by it are often the least served by existing verification efforts.

Our Team

Veredicto is a young newsroom that came together to amplify the work of fact-checkers and raise awareness about misinformation stories that receive less coverage in mainstream media. We believe that careful, transparent verification journalism deserves a wider audience — especially when it concerns the claims that shape how people understand politics and public affairs.

Skyler Wintermute

Editor

Skyler Wintermute is a senior editor with a background in science communication and open-source research. Much of Skyler's work centers on verifying viral claims about public health, climate, and emerging technologies. Earlier experience includes work with nonprofits focused on improving information quality and training journalists in verification techniques. Skyler joined Veredicto in 2026. Prior to that, Skyler was the editor and cofounder of the newly created, yet prestigious fact-checking outlet PublicProof, building a reputation for careful sourcing and accessible explainers of technical topics. Skyler is known for clear, step-by-step explainers that show readers how a claim was checked, often using publicly available data, and for leading workshops and contributing to collaborative investigations tracing how misleading narratives move across platforms.

Certification & Industry Standards

Veredicto is committed to aligning its fact-checking practices with internationally recognized standards. We look to the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) Code of Principles as a guiding framework for how independent fact-checking organizations should operate — with nonpartisanship, transparency of funding and methodology, a clear corrections policy, and a commitment to verifying claims across the full political spectrum.

Veredicto was founded in 2025 and, as a newsroom still in its early stages, is not yet an IFCN signatory. Achieving that certification is a goal we consider important as the organization grows and consolidates its editorial practices and institutional track record.
